Ajax’s Edwin van der Sar steps in to negotiate Antony deal with Manchester United

Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar is rarely involved in transfers, but has stepped in to negotiate the Antony deal with Manchester United due to his relationship with the club.

Man Utd have recently ramped up their efforts to sign Antony and have had multiple offers turned down, with the winger asking to leave for the English club.

The stakes of the deal couldn’t be higher, with it set to be worth around €100m if it does go through, and given that, Van der Sar is the one handling the negotiations for Ajax, according to De Volkskrant.

Usually this summer, Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Gerry Hamstra, but given he’s more experienced and has a history with Man Utd having played there, the pair have stepped aside for Van der Sar in this case.

Such negotiations have led to Erik ten hag’s new side preparing an offer of over €100m, and it would be a surprise if Ajax turned down such a sum.

That amount almost matches the club’s annual turnover and would fund their transfers for years to come.
