Ajax working on €5M deal to sign Club America right-back Jorge Sanchez

In their search for a right-back, Ajax have settled on Club America’s Jorge Sanchez, and are in talks to sign him.

When Noussair Mazraoui left for Bayern Munich at the start of the transfer window, right-back became something of a weak spot for Ajax, but it wasn’t an area they immediately addressed, first signing a number of forwards and centre-back Calvin Bassey.

However, with Devyne Rensch failing to impress in pre-season, the need for a player in that position became more urgent, and it now seems Sanchez is the player they’ve chosen to bring in.

According to Mike Verweij, speaking on De Telegraaf podcast, a deal will cost around €5 million, and the Dutch champions are working hard to get it done.

He also says they have been offered Santiago Arias, formerly of PSV, but have some concerns over his fitness.

“Last week Santiago Arias was offered,” he said.

“The ex-PSV’er is allowed to leave Atletico Madrid… but there is some doubt about his fitness because of his previous injuries.

“It seems that Ajax prefers a player who can be deployed immediately. Like Arias, Sanchez has the grinta, which Lisandro Martinez and Nicolas Tagliafico also brought.”
