Ajax v Aston Villa Preview | Ajax continue hunt for long awaited major European trophy in Conference League final 16

Ajax will continue their quest to add a ninth European trophy to the cabinet when they face Aston Villa in the first round of their last 16 clash in the Europa Conference League. During their history the side from Amsterdam have won what is now the Champions League four times, the European Cup Winners Cup once, the UEFA Cup once and the UEFA Super Cup twice.

Ajax have been in a poor run of form since coming back in January. The side won their first league game in over a month when they beat inform Utrecht 2-0 on Saturday. This was also the first win for their winter signing Jordan Henderson since he left Saudi-Arabia. Brian Brobbery was once again on the scoresheet, grabbing his 15th goal in 23 league games. The side were in truth lucky to make it this far in the competition, having been outplayed by their opponents FK Bodø/Glimt in the second leg in their last 32 tie.

Lucas Digne’s late winner means that Aston Villa come into the game with three wins on the bounce. The side from the midlands are looking for their first major European trophy since winning the 1982 European Cup final against Bayern Munich.
