Ajax have told Edson Alvarez that he’s not leaving for Chelsea and will stay at the Dutch club.
Chelsea made a last-minute bid for the Mexican midfielder last night amounting to €50m and Alvarez has been trying to force Ajax to let him go ever since.
He refused to train today to try and has been demanding that his current club accept the offer and let him leave for the English side.
He took some hope in the fact that they didn’t immediately reject the offer, but according to Mike Verweij, they’ve now told him that he won’t be leaving.
With just a few hours left of the transfer window now, it’s unlikely that the Eredivisie champions will change their mind, and Alvarez will have little choice but to continue playing for them until January at the least.
He could of course go on strike, with a World Cup coming up, he’s unlikely to do so.
