According to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax have made an offer worth €20m plus add-ons for Dinamo Zagreb defender Josip Sutalo. Ajax are confident to get the deal done, but if their bid isn’t accepted the Dutch club will move on to different centre-back targets.
Josip Sutalo has been an Ajax target for a while now. The 23-year-old Croatian centre-back has spent his entire career with Dinamo Zagreb and last season he was dominant in defence as his side lifted their 24th league title. Last season, Sutalo featured 36 times in all competitions, scoring three goals within those games. The eight-time Croatia international could be a brilliant signing for Ajax. The next 48 hours are crucial in determining whether he’ll move to the Amsterdam club or not.
Sutalo would succeed Jurriën Timber at Ajax. The Dutch defender left the Johan Cruyff Arena for Arsenal this summer for €40m and the club need a suitable replacement before the new Eredivisie campaign kicks off. Edson Álvarez is also close to the exit door, with West Ham currently in talks to sign the defensive midfielder. Ajax need reinforcements if they want to challenge for the title.
