Ajax have completed the signing of Geronimo Rulli from Villarreal on a three-year-and-a-half deal, the club has announced.
The signing means Rulli will be the ninth Argentine in the Amsterdam club’s history having completed the €8 million plus add-ons move from La Liga.
Rulli joins the club having been part of the Argentina squad that won the World Cup in Qatar last month but was not part of the playing squad with Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez playing every single minute of the competition.
A goalkeeper has been high on the priority list at the Johan Cruyff Stadium with all the other three goalkeepers either reaching the end of their career or inexperienced.
Remko Pasveer (39) and Maarten Stekelenburg (40) have an expiring contract with Ajax, while Jay Gorter (22) hopes to gain experience elsewhere on loan for the rest of the season.
Ajax have been on the lookout for a goalkeeper in the transfer window with links to the likes of Andries Noppert, Dominik Livakovic and Alexander Nubel too.
