Ajax showing strong interest in Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom

According to Voetbal International, Ajax are showing strong interest in Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom. Technical director Sven Mislintat and the player already know each other from their time at Arsenal, and now a move to the Johan Cruyff Arena could soon be on the cards for the 27-year-old.

Chuba Akpom scored 28 goals in 38 Championship appearances for Middlesbrough last season, making him the league’s top scorer. After an outstanding campaign, several sides including Sheffield United and Lens have shown serious interest in the former Arsenal, Hull City and PAOK striker.

Ajax currently only have one striker in their squad, with 21-year-old Brian Brobbey being the only man available in that position. Akpom, who only has one year left on his current contract, has been identified as the ideal candidate to help the Dutch giants challenge for the title once again. If Ajax are able to fight off competition for the forward, this could be an excellent signing for the Amsterdam club. They’re also looking at other options.
