Ajax are close to signing Trabzonspor centre-back Ahmetcan Kaplan for a fee of €10 million.
The Amsterdam club have already revamped their defence this summer with Calvin Bassey and Owen Wijndal joining and Jorge Sanchez all but certain to follow them through the door.
That rebuild now looks set to continue with the signing of Kaplan, the Turkish champions’ 19-year-old central defender. Last season, he made 13 league appearances for the club.
According to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, the club are set to sign him for €10 million, bonuses included, with him signing a five-year contract.
He is thought to be a replacement for Perr Schuurs, who is subject to interest from Italy and would like to leave to play regular first-team football.
The signing will take Ajax’s spending for the summer to over €100 million, and former player Rafael van der Vaart hasn’t been impressed with the business they’ve done.
