Ajax set to sign Branco van den Boomen on a free transfer from Toulouse

Ajax are set to sign Branco van den Boomen on a free transfer from Toulouse, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 27-year-old will sign a long-term deal at the Johan Cruyff Arena valid until 2027. Van den Boomen will be returning to familiar ground. In 2011 he joined the Ajax youth academy where he featured 15 times for Jong Ajax before joining FC Eindhoven.

Van den Boomen also experienced spells with Heerenveen, Willem II and De Graafschap. His superb performances in the centre of midfield earned him a move to Toulouse in 2020. Last season he scored 12 goals and provided 23 assists in 41 Ligue 2 games as Toulouse were crowned champions of the second tier. This season the club lifted their first ever Coupe de France, beating Nantes 5-1 in the final last month.

On Friday, Toulouse announced that Van den Boomen and fellow Dutchman Stijn Spierings would leave the club at the end of the season following the expiry of their contracts. Almost immediately, Ajax pounced on the opportunity of signing Van den Boomen on a free transfer. The midfielders arrival is expected to be finalised after he undergoes medical tests in the coming days.
