Ajax set to beat Feyenoord to the signing of Florian Grillitsch

Ajax are set to beat Feyenoord to the signing of Florian Grillitsch, with the midfielder joining the Eredivisie champions today.

Grillitsch entered this transfer window as a free agent after leaving Hoffenheim and has attracted interest from major clubs throughout Europe such as Roma and Arsenal.

Last week, it was reported that Feyenoord were trying to sign the Austrian as a replacement for Fredrik Aursnes, but that his high salary demands could be an issue for them.

Now, according to well-informed Twitter user @Hamstelaar, Ajax have swooped in and taken the 27-year-old instead, with the deal set to be announced before the end of the window tonight.

The signing eases the need for a replacement for Antony to be found if the deal for Lucas Ocampos doesn’t go through, with Grillitsch’s addition meaning the club have other midfield options if they wish to move Steven Berghuis to the right-wing position.
