Ajax striker Wout Weghorst is set for an extended spell on the sidelines. The former Burnley and Manchester United striker wonโt be available for Ajax till after the winter break due to an ankle injury that he sustained last Saturday during the sides 3-1 victory away to Fortuna Sittard. Weghorst had to come off at half-time and will now miss a number of Eredivisie games and the sides Champions League clash with Qarabag in Azerbaijan.
The 33-year-old Ajax forward will hope that he can stay injury free for the rest of the season following his return as he looks to make it into the Oranje squad for the upcoming World Cup. Since joining Ajax from Burnley back in August 2024 he has scored 18 goals in 49 games. The imposing striker remains a quality option upfront at this level. Weghorst began his career with FC Emmen before spells with Heracles and AZ Alkmaar. In 2018 he left Dutch football for Wolfsburg, a move that saw him play in England with Manchester United and Burnley with a brief spell with Besiktas in the middle.
