Ajax reach verbal agreement to sign Manchester City talent Carlos Borges despite interest from West Ham

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax are set to hijack West Ham United’s deal to sign Manchester City talent Carlos Borges. Ajax have reached a verbal agreement with the 19-year-old left-winger, and the player will be in Amsterdam soon to undergo medical tests. West Ham were close to completing the signing, but Ajax have made their move as they look to make the Portugal U19 international their player.

Carlos Borges has just experienced a super season with Manchester City’s U21s. The youngster finished the campaign as the Premier League 2 top scorer, netting 21 times in 24 appearances. On top of that, he provided 11 assists. In all competitions last season, he scored 29 times and provided 18 assists in just 33 appearances. These are remarkable numbers from the teenager.

Ajax have been looking to boost their attack ahead of the new Eredivisie campaign. Maurice Steijn’s current selection seems to be lacking firepower, so attackers are certainly a priority. Carlos Borges could be an excellent signing for the Dutch giants as they look to challenge for the title after last season’s disappointment.
