Ajax keen on Club Brugge’s rising star Abakar Sylla

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Ajax are interested in signing Club Brugge’s talented young central defender Abakar Sylla. The 19 year-old Ivorian has been an impressive performer for the defending Belgian champions in both the domestic league and the Champions League. He has played 15 matches in all competitions, scoring once.

Sylla has also been able to keep Dedryck Boyata, signed in the summer, out of the side when fit. HNB are reporting that is unlikely that Ajax will make a move for the defender in January, but there have been visits from the clubs scouts to Club Brugge games in order to watch the defender.

Sylla cost Club Brugge around 200,000 euros in 2021, with the teenager leaving his native Cote d’Ivoire for Belgium from Société Omnisports de l’Armée.

Sylla was given the chance following the departure of Stanley Nsoki to Hoffenheim in the summer.

Club Brugge have already seen one departure of one player this transfer window, with former captain Ruud Vormer moving to Zulte Waregem. The defending champions also announced a new head coach, with former Fulham and Bournemouth manager Scott Parker replacing Carl Hoefkens.
