Ajax considering signing goalkeeper Alexander Nübel from Bayern Munich

Ajax are continuing their search for a new goalkeeper ahead of the January transfer window with Alexander Nübel’s name now believed to be on the shortlist, according to German newspaper BILD.

The 26-year-old German is currently enjoying a loan spell at AS Monaco from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and is enjoying his time as number one at Stade Louis II.

The former Schalke 04 goalkeeper joined Bayern Munich back in 2020 but has largely played a squad player role making just one Bundesliga appearance so far in his time at the Allianz Arena before joining Monaco on a two-year loan deal a year later.

The former Paderborn player featured in every single league game since joining the Ligue 1 side and has missed just six matches in all competitions since August 2021 picking up 20 clean sheets so far for the Monégasques.

However, Ajax find a problem in filling the number two spot as the Eredivisie champions understand the Bundesliga champions are looking at possibly recalling Nübel in January now that Manuel Neuer has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a fractured tibia.

Nübel is not the only name believed to feature on the shortlist with Netherlands number one Andries Noppert thought to be high up on the list of candidates to arrive at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
