Ajax captain Steven Bergwijn expected to make a move to Saudi Arabia, Qatar or the United Arab Emirates in January

According to Voetbal International, Ajax captain Steven Bergwijn might very well make a move to Saudi Arabia, Qatar or the United Arab Emirates in January. The 26-year-old winger has been on the radar of some Saudi clubs for a while, and now it’s expected that he’ll make a move away from the Johan Cruyff Arena. Bergwijn’s father is said to be exploring options already in the Middle East.

Steven Bergwijn kicked off his career with PSV Eindhoven, where he spent six seasons in the first team before joining Tottenham in 2020. The 32-time Netherlands national team forward made 60 Premier League appearances for the North London club before returning to the Netherlands. Now, he’s almost halfway through his second season with Ajax, and a move could already be on the cards.

Recently it was reported that Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq were interested in Bergwijn. That move would see Steven Bergwijn link up with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Moussa Dembele and Demarai Gray. Despite all the big name players making moves to Saudi Arabia during the summer, Al-Ettifaq have been playing in front of crowds below 1,000. It’ll be interesting to see what route Bergwijn will take this winter.
