Ajax attempting bring Nicolás Tagliafico back to Amsterdam from Lyon

According to De Telegraaf, Ajax are making an attempt to bring Nicolás Tagliafico back to the club from Lyon. Technical director Sven Mislintat has spoken to the Argentine’s management and was told that the 30-year-old left-back is open to a new spell at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Tagliafico joined Ajax from Independiente for €4m in January 2018 and he gradually became a fan favourite during his four-and-a-half seasons in Amsterdam. The defender featured 169 times, scoring 16 goals and providing 23 assists. Tagliafico won three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups during his time at the club. He was also part of the squad that made it to the 2019 Champions League semi-finals.

Olympique Lyon signed Nicolás Tagliafico last summer for €4.2m. In the coming days we should know whether the French Ligue 1 side will be willing to sell him to Ajax and at what price. An alternative to Tagliafico would be Antwerp left-back Gastón Ávila. The 21-year-old Argentine is a backup option, but he could cost around €12m. Ávila played 26 matches for the Belgian champions last season. He can also play as centre-back. Ajax remain interested in VfB Stuttgart defender Hiroki Ito (24).
