According to reports from Voetbal International, Ajax have targeted Georgios Vagiannidis (23) as Devyne Rensch’s successor. Although Rensch’s to AS Roma is yet to be completed, the Amsterdam club are “already playing chess on several boards”.
Ajax are still yet to table an agreement with Panathinaikos, yet the Greek international Vagiannidis arrives as a promising prospect. The 23-year-old graduated from the youth academy of Panathinaikos and was bought by Inter in the summer of 2020 before being immediately loaned to Sint-Truiden in the Belgian Pro League.
Since his 2022 return to Panathinaikos, the man with three Greek caps has amassed 86 appearances for the Greens. His current contract runs until 2028. Transfermarkt value the defender at €6m.
If Vagiannidis can’t be pried from the current third-placed Greek side, Youri Regeer is also an option at right-back. Ajax sold him to FC Twente in 2023 but have a buy-back clause of “several million euros”.
