Ajax agree to release Daley Blind on a free transfer after Royal Antwerp interest

Daley Blind is set to be released from his contract at Ajax after requesting for a free transfer, De Telegraaf reports.

Blind, who was a major part of Netherlands World Cup campaign in Qatar, is set to have his contract ended early this winter with a move to Royal Antwerp thought to be his next destination.

The former Manchester United player is currently in his second stint at the Amsterdam-based club but is thought to no longer be part of Alfred Schreuder’s plans after his form dropped this season.

It is thought the club are happy to let him go on a free and do not want to see him waste the remaining months of the season on the bench as he is thought to be the third-preferred choice left-back at the Johan Cruyff Stadium with Owen Wijndal and Devyne Rensch higher up the pecking order.

Antwerp’s Marc Overmars and Mark van Bommel have made it clear they are interested in bringing the Dutch player to the Belgian Pro League.
