Shola Shoretire has certainly enjoyed the return of the Eredivisie. Prior to the restart of the Dutch top flight, the winger had two goals and one assist in 16 games for PEC Zwolle. Fast forward a week or so, and Shoretire has now moved on to five goals in 18 games. Three of these have come in the past two matches, with a fantastic brace against AZ in a 3-1 win this past weekend. Shoretireโs goals were the catalyst for the victory and ultimately cost AZ head coach Marten Maartens his job.

Shoretire is only on loan at PEC this season, having joined for the season from Greek giants PAOK. Once a highly rated prospect in the Manchester United academy, the winger has had to leave the UK in order to forge his career. It is a path that more young English players are willing to take, and they are being rewarded for it. At just 21-years-old, Shoretire has already experienced a lot.
He did manage to play for Manchester United as a teenager, with five games between 2020 and 2021. During the 2022/2023 season he got his first real taste of senior football, joining Bolton Wanderers on loan. In 16 games he scored once, but his performances clearly impressed PAOK. In 2024 he joined the Greek giants, and last season he scored four goals in 27 games. Shoretire has a contract with the club until 2028.
Now on loan at PEC, Shroetire appears to be enjoying himself in the Eredivisie. He has received plenty of plaudits for this performance at the past weekend, and PEC fans will hope that he can keep this going until the end of the season. The side in blue and white are still in danger of being sucked into a relegation scrap if they suffer a bad run of results.
